Several models for various dutys.

W 460

230 G

The 2.3 liter engine was one of first available motors for the G. This engine with intern denotation M115 came initially from the /8-line of products, and was inserted too in the W123 limousine. That with a Stromberg 175CD diagonal-stream-carburetor applied engine was built at two power levels: with 90 and 102 hp. Because the 90 hp engine only works with a compression ratio of 8.0:1, it could be operated with regular gas, the 102 hp version required premium gas. The carburetor engine was available in all models, until it was replaced in 1982 by the 230 GE. The export of the 90 hp version was continued for a while.

Technical Data

200 GE

This version was a model exported exclusively for the Italian market. While the other motors were also available, the owner of a 200 GE enjoyed tax advantages which were only received on vehicles with a stroke volume of less than 2 liters. The engine was the same one which was used in the 200 E of the W124 line of products and in the 190 E of the W201 line of products.

230 GE

In 1982 the M102 engine of the 230 E (W123 and later W124) replaced the carburetor driven engine. The most important modification was the adaptation onto fuel injection with the 'K-jetronic' of Bosch controlled mechanically. From 1984, the 230 GE could also be operated with unleaded gasoline. A controlled three way catalyst in 1986 followed, which was initially an optional extra. The standard 230 GE receives the new 'KE-Jetronic' from Bosch that makes a catalyst-upgrade possible for this models.

Technical Data

280 GE

Although the big 6-cylinder engine was already announced during the introduction of the G, the delivery of the G-models with the M110 engine (which was employed in its original version already since the 70's in the /8 and later in the W123) was delayed on account of production bottlenecks until the middle of 1980. Because the G-version of the M110 engine has a relatively low compression ratio of 8.0:1, it may be operated with regular gas. The engine was adapted to suit the new exhaust fume and noise regulations in 1984 and now achieve a slightly lower 150hp. The 280 GE remained as the undisputed top motor until its production was ceased in 1990.

Technical Data

240 GD

The smallest of the G-diesel engines with the denotation OM616 also came from the MB-limousine-program and was installed as before in all G-models from 1979 to 1987. The 240 GD was also the only G (with the exception of the 230 G) that could not be ordered with the 5-speed-manual or the automatic transmission.

Technical Data

250 GD

The 250 GD superseded the 240 GD in 1987. Unlike the OM616, the new engine with denotation OM602D25 was a 5-cylinder which was also employed in the 250 D of the W124 line of products. The 250 GD is also the first model which is delivered with a standard 5-speed gear. It remained in the program up to the production of the W460 line of products was ceased in April 1992.

Technical Data

300 GD

The 300 GD possessed the greatest stroke volume of the W460 line of products. The OM617 corresponded technically to the 240 GD, however it was a 5-cylinder. The 300 GD enjoyed great popularity in spite of its relatively low power. It was taken off the product range together with 280 GE in 1990.
